Twingo Z.E.: electric gives it even more spark

Twingo is already a firm favorite due to its agility, and now offers even more responsiveness and greater driving pleasure with the introduction of the fully electric Twingo Z.E.

With its slim curves (3.61 meters long), its wheels deftly positioned at each corner of the chassis and a rear-mounted motor, Twingo is already one of the most agile city cars on the market.

Built on a platform natively developed for electric drives, it offers a slightly raised driving seat that improves the driver’s view of the road and makes it easy to weave in and out of traffic.

Able to park in small spaces, it still holds the record for the smallest turning circle on the market: at 4.3 meters for a U-turn. Twingo Z.E. adds all the advantages of an electric motor to the vehicle’s already very playful characteristics.

According to Olivier Paquet, Senior Manager for Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Systems at Groupe Renault, “Twingo Z.E.’s electric drive system is designed to offer the best balance between performance, city driving pleasure and energy efficiency.”

The appeal of ever-ready torque

So what’s inside? A 60 kW motor, equivalent to 82 HP in combustion engine terms, which releases 160 Nm of torque that’s always ready to kick in. Twingo Z.E. can go from 0 to 50 km/h in barely 4 seconds.

These figures translate into powerful acceleration and dynamic speed recovery even at low RPM. In the city, the car can glide away as soon as the traffic light turns green. On the road, Twingo Z.E. quickly finds its way out of difficult situations.  Silently, without gears to change and without emissions*. Its top speed of 135 km/h enables it to drive safely suburban expressways and highways.

Designed by Renault and produced in the Cléon plant, the motor in Twingo Z.E. is a variant of the one used for New ZOE. It therefore benefits from Groupe Renault’s long experience in the development and production of high-performance and energy efficient electric motors.

A new B mode with three power levels

As well as driving aids such as hill start assist and lane departure warning, Twingo Z.E. comes with a new “B mode” designed to make city driving easier. Once activated, it offers the driver three regenerative braking settings to choose from, simply by pressing the pedal.

At the highest setting, the car offers very strong engine braking, which means that it slows right down as soon as the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator. This makes driving easier, which is especially appealing for short distances or slowing down traffic conditions.

At the opposite end of the scale, the lowest setting limits regenerative braking action, making the most of the car’s dynamics and momentum. The driver is free to pick the setting most suited to the required driving style!

Twingo Z.E. is set to join the Twingo range by the end of 2020, alongside the three existing combustion engine models.
