Electric car engines are now comparable in power to combustion engines. Just like its counterpart, the power of an electric engine is tested with a test rig, and expressed in kilowatts (kW) or horsepower (hp). For reference, 1 kW = 1.35 hp.
For example, the Renault ZOE’s R110 engine offers 80 kW, equivalent to 110 hp.
Also note that an electric engine, with its mechanical reducer, electronic control, and charger is lighter and less bulky than a combustion powertrain of equivalent power.
