These days, electric car motors are comparable to combustion engines in terms of power. Like that of its conventional counterpart, the power of the electric motor is benchmarked, and it is stated in kilowatts or horsepower (1 kW being equal to 1.35 HP).
By way of example, the R135 motor in the new Renault ZOE delivers 100 kW, equate to 135 HP.
Also note that an electric motor, with its mechanical reducer, electronic control and charger, is lighter and less bulky than a combustion powertrain engine with the equivalent power.
