What’s an induction track?

Driving to recharge your electric car? This is now a reality thanks to the induction track. On this type of innovative route, recharging is dynamic and contactless. Coils placed both on the road and in the electric car make the transferring of energy possible. The idea is the same as that behind electromagnetic induction, an already proven technology used for lamps, hobs and electrical transformers.

This promising concept supported by Groupe Renault is however still in its experimental stages. A test track was inaugurated in Versailles (France) in 2017. Tests performed with prototypes of the Renault Kangoo Z.E. were successful. This study phase will continue before we can expect any expansion onto the motorway or into cities that are anxious to transition into a smart city of the future.
