A hybrid vehicle has two propulsion systems: a combustion engine – most often a gasoline engine – and an electric motor. There are actually two types of hybrid vehicles: rechargeable and non-rechargeable. The non-rechargeable hybrid powers itself with a small battery when decelerating. The Renault Clio E-TECH is one example of this.
The rechargeable hybrid, like the Renault Captur E-TECH plug-in, comes with a bigger battery and therefore a longer all-electric range of 50 km on average. It charges a little when decelerating but does have to be charged at a charging station. This way, on many types of trips, it doesn’t need to use any fossil fuel.
