Solid-state battery

In tomorrow’s world, the current lithium-ion battery with a liquid electrolyte may be replaced by a so-called “solid-state” battery, built around a solid electrolyte without a separator. Though still under development, this design promises a battery that will be safer, more compact and more tolerant of fast charging. This battery could also offer improved efficiency by reducing the energy losses caused by the heating up of the electrolyte. Its production will not start for several years.
