Renault steps up the electrification of its lines by launching a range of hybrid and rechargeable hybrid vehicles alongside its existing drives. Called the E-TECH and E-TECH Plug-in, these new models combine driving pleasure, environmentally-friendly performance and cost savings over time. All this thanks to a drive that is the only one of its kind on the market, involving some 150 patents. As a result, the Renault E-TECH and E-TECH Plug-In are especially appealing for both individual and business use.

With the introduction of the hybrid and rechargeable hybrid E-TECH models alongside the gas, diesel and LPG engines, Renault is making its range of drive options more versatile than ever. This way, the brand offers an electrified solution for every need. A hybrid drive is perfect for drivers looking to make major cost savings and who also want to get around in a more environmentally-friendly way. The innovative features reflect the brand’s electric vehicle know-how and draw on technology developed as a result of its involvement in Formula 1. It is thanks to these innovations that Renault E-TECH hybrids combine exceptional efficiency with a uniquely smooth ride. This will bring a new edge to that distinctive feel of driving a Renault.

Electrification for everyone

Renault’s strategy is to make sustainable mobility available for everyone, now and in the future. By 2022, Groupe Renault is aiming for the large-scale electrification of its range, with eight all-electric models and 12 electrified models (hybrid and rechargeable hybrid). This strategy begins right now with the most in-demand models: Clio E-TECH, with its “full-hybrid” solution that’s perfect for urban driving, and Captur and Mégane plug-in hybrids for both day-to-day electric use and the ability to go on long weekly trips. This comprehensive range of options has something to suit every driver according to their needs.

Revolutionary hybrid technology

Electric and hybrid technologies are mutually complementary. E-TECH hybrid technology draws on the expertise that Renault has built up over more than 10 years with the electric Z.E. range, and also the experience gained from its involvement in Formula 1. This has enabled the brand to enter the market with a mature system and advanced solutions involving more than 150 patents. They make Renault hybrids agile and very efficient when it comes to energy use and regeneration. Like in Formula 1, slowing down and braking turn kinetic energy into electricity to charge the battery.

E-TECH technology uses a combustion engine adapted to hybridization and two electric motors to deliver 141 horsepower (Clio E-TECH) or 160 horsepower (New Captur E-TECH Plug-in and New Mégane E-TECH Plug-in). Their functions are optimized to reduce fuel consumption as much as possible, just like the innovative automatic clutch gearbox which is specially designed to suit hybrid vehicles.

Clio E-TECH: the totally efficient “full hybrid”

As the most compact model in Renault’s range of hybrid options, Clio E-TECH uses what’s known as “full hybrid” technology. This allows it to use its modes of propulsion (electricity or gas) either separately or together. In the city, up to 80% of time spent driving can be exclusively electric, economizing up to to 40% on fuel compared to a similar combustion engine on an urban cycle.

The Captur E-TECH Plug-in: electric power on demand

The New Captur E-TECH Plug-in and New Mégane E-TECH Plug-in use “rechargeable hybrid” technology. Their compact battery with its large 9.8 kWh capacity means that they can run day-to-day without using fuel, offering an all-electric range of 65 kilometers. Plus, the combustion engine means maximum versatility and total freedom with the option of taking long trips on weekends or vacations.

The MULTI-SENSE settings, which take their name from the system controlling the vehicle’s management parameters, have an additional “Pure” mode that allows the driver to switch to all-electric. Conversely, an “E-Save” mode makes it possible to give precedence to the engine so as to save the battery’s charge for later use.

With Clio E-TECH, New Captur E-TECH Plug-in and New Mégane E-TECH Plug-in, Renault begins a new chapter. The brand is paving the way towards a new era in the democratization of hybrid technology, using it in its best-selling models to make it accessible to everyone.
